Completion of the geodesic dome is in sight now! The dome was donated by the Austin Kriya Yoga Center, and will become an important centerpiece at the Temple of Compassion ashram. What an amazing project!

A heroic effort by Ramin, Paul, and James! The massively heavy dome cover was unpacked, pulled up the side, spread out, and pulled over the top. Then a few technical problems arose, including a rip that needed to be repaired. Time ran out, so the bottom edges were rolled up for safe-keeping, and the team will give it another try next week.

After months and months of perseverance to overcome many obstacles, by the grace of God the dome is born! Today the structure of the dome was completed, tomorrow it will be anchored to the base, and this weekend the “skin” will be put on. Ramin Baba from Dallas and Paul Baba from Austin, atop a 16-foot ladder, put the final bolt in place at 3:04 PM Central Time. The moment was captured on video, and it felt almost surreal.

It’s Dome Seva Weekend, and this morning there were four hardy souls braving below-freezing temperatures, and a wind chill factor of about 7 degrees to erect the frame! After lunch the temperature climbed to just above freezing, with a wind chill of 30, and they went back out again. We bow to you Susan, Susan, Ramin, and Janice for your dedication and loving service.

The first weekend in January will be a “stay for free” weekend if you come to help erect the meditation dome. The same will be true either the second or third weekend, depending on the availability of the volunteers.
Ramin Baba is heading up the effort, and is looking for two people to help him January 6th through 8th to get the base of the dome built. This involves assembling 425 struts into a series of connected triangles using nuts and bolts.
No experience is required – just bring your loving heart and willing hands. We will provide a place to stay, three vegetarian meals each day, and an opportunity to meditate in the beautifully serene rural environment of our Texas ashram.

Many thanks to Ramin Baba, Paul Baba, and Mahendra Baba for their efforts this past weekend on the meditation dome! They fortified the under-structure to make it more solid, and put three coats of sealer on the floor. They’ll be back in January to start putting together the dome frame. It’s an exciting project, and they could use your help!

This geodesic dome is a beautiful structure that will provide a meditation space for nearly 100 people at a fraction of the cost of a building. The frame is constructed of a series of triangles, making it much stronger than a rectangle-based building. Thanks to a few generous donors – one who paid for all the materials, and a few others who provided the manpower – the floor of the dome has already been constructed. The next steps are:
1) Waterproof the floor (it is currently covered with heavy-duty plastic to protect it from the elements)
2) Erect the frame (assemble 425 struts into a series of connected triangles using nuts and bolts)
3) Cover the frame with the special canvas cover
Waterproofing the floor will require the purchase of sealer and the tools to apply it. Erecting the frame and covering it with the canvas will require renting a 5K forklift or scissor lift. And, of course, all remaining steps will require loving hands and hearts to perform the work.
