Believe it or not, we are STILL cracking pecans from last year! Thanks to Erin Kelly and her daughter Madeline for their work adding to the cracked and shelled pecans in our freezer!

Leslie Ma and Gitanjali continue the never-ending job of cracking and shelling pecans.
The new electric pecan cracking machine is a wonderful addition, and is a joy to use.
And although Jan Ma is not in this picture she WAS the first person to use the machine!
Thank you, Jan Ma.

We have a new and VERY dedicated pecan sheller in our midst: Jan Ma from Miami! She's here for a month, and has shelled hundreds of pecans for us. We're hoping that before she leaves, she can be the first to use the new electric pecan sheller that she so generously donated.

Tirelessly cracking and shelling pecans - seva during Gurudev's Mahasamadi celebration. Punitha Ma, Devi Ma, Krishna Ma, and Tusar Baba spent hours cracking and shelling pecans divinely infused with the love of God and gurus.

Thanks to Ramin Baba for putting his scientific mind to the early stages of our pecan business plan! About one hundred pounds of pecans had been picked up from the front yard and were waiting to be analyzed. Ramin rose to the challenge of determining how many nuts in the shell make one pound, how long it takes to crack and shell them (with our humble one-nut-at-a-time cracker), and how many ounces of shelled nuts came out of it.

Two varieties were analyzed - "native" and "desirable".

Native Pecans
* 81 nuts in the shell = 1 pound
* Average 11.5 bad nuts out of 81
* Average yield is 5.55 ounces of ready-to-eat nuts
* Average time to crack and shell them was 37 minutes

Desirable Variety Pecans
* 49 nuts in the shell = 1 pound
* Average 5 bad nuts out of 49
* Average yield is 6.95 ounces of ready to eat nuts
* Average time to crack and shell them was 25 minutes

Ramin also researched higher capacity nut cracking and shelling machines, and calculated the return on investment for it.

And last but not least, he analyzed the cost of the effort to do all of this work ourselves, the cost of having them all cracked for us in Brenham, selling them at retail price through our website, and selling them at wholesale price in Brenham.
